Melania Trump has been caught on secretly recorded tapes discussing everything from the White House Christmas decorations to the situation regarding family separation at the border—and what she had to say has left some shocked.
The newly released tapes are from 2018 conversations she had with former advisor and friend, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, who is the author of the book Melania and Me.
“I’m working … my ass off on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives a fuck about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?” the First Lady is heard telling Winston Wolkoff about her much-criticized White House decor.
She goes on to rail against critics who expected her to do more to intervene in the Trump administration’s family separation policy, seeming to cast some of the blame onto former President Barack Obama. “OK, and then I do it and I say that I’m working on Christmas and planning for the Christmas, and they said, ‘Oh, what about the children that they were separated?’” she said. “Give me a fucking break. Were they were saying anything when Obama did that? I can not go, I was trying get the kid reunited with the mom. I didn’t have a chance—needs to go through the process and through the law.”
“They say I’m complicit. I’m the same like him, I support him,” the First Lady also said, presumably referring to her husband. “I don’t say enough. I don’t do enough where I am.”
As for that infamous “I Really Don’t Care, Do You?” jacket—the real story behind that choice also came out on the tapes. I’m driving liberals crazy, that’s for sure,” Trump said. “And that, you know, that’s—and they deserve it, you understand. And everybody’s like, ‘Oh, my God. This is the worst. This is the worst.’ After, I mean, come on. They are crazy, OK?”
